French Rosé Wine
There was a time when rosé was seen as pink plonk for your holiday, in a romance that went sour once you got it home. But rosé is all grown up. UK winelovers are drinking more rosé than ever, and not only in summer. Rosé wine is made from red grapes that are given the gentlest of squishing – not by mixing white and red wine. Good rosé is more like the gentler cousin of a red wine than a brassy cousin of white.
Good, dry rosé is fantastic with food. We love Sancerre Rosé (which is made in France from Pinot Noir) with grilled monkfish. Turkey is one of the Eastern Mediterranean countries making fabulously lively but fruity rosé that tastes wonderful with pretty much any recipe in ‘that’ Ottolenghi cookbook.
